Hello everyone, my name is Joanna.
I am a native English and Vietnamese speaker and have been studying Spanish since 2014.
I would like to apply Spanish and Vietnamese translation to help others who do not have the ability to speak or comprehend English with social services and criminal justice processes. My goal is to work with the Crisis Negotiation Team, which works with law enforcement and S.W.A.T (Special Weapons and Tactics) teams to mitigate crisis situations such as hostage negotiations and suicidal incidents. Also, I hope to become a community resources officer and hold presentations in Vietnamese and Spanish to educate the community on their rights as a resident in the United States and educate them on their civil rights. I grew up watching my family members and others in my community who immigrated to America later in their life struggle with the English language. They had troubles ordering food, contacting law enforcement, going to the doctor's office, and reading important legal documents. One of my greatest passions is to fill the void of language barriers and be a bridge to facilitate peaceful situations as a police officer and a partner of social services. I know that it is difficult for people to learn a foreign language, so if I am able to do what I love (study foreign languages) and help others along the way, I will have a very fulfilling and gratifying career!
