Hello everyone!
My name is Leslie Plascencia and I am a ASL Linguistics and Deaf Cultures Major, but I plan on switching to ASL - English Interpretation in the near future. I also am aiming to minor in Translation Studies. I speak English, Spanish, and am currently learning ASL. Since I was a child I was interested in learning the language.
The reason I chose to study ASL - English Interpretation is because the more I learned about Deaf culture and American Sign Language, the more I was able to see myself being an interpreter. Before I chose to officially switch to ASL studies, I debated whether I was choosing the right path and if I would be happy with my choice of my previous majors. Being as indecisive as I am, I was glad to finally have found a path that I felt passionate about. As an interpreter I strive to expose the hearing world to the Deaf world/community to help in ridding any misconceptions that even I myself once had as a hearing person before being exposed to the culture.
I look forward to meeting you all in our zoom lectures!
